Software testing has a long history, and mixes aspects of human intuition and experience with algorithmic opportunities for automation. Currently, progress on the algorithmic side is rapidly progressing in Artificial Intelligence. These algorithmic improvements, like deep neural networks and reinforcement learning, aim at learning intelligent behaviors, based on data, interaction, human feedback and demonstration, and prior knowledge. In this talk, starting from ongoing work on the Testar scriptless testing tool, I will survey current directions in reinforcement learning useful for automatically learning intelligent testing behaviors. Furthermore, I will discuss powerful future directions in combining testing automation and reinforcement learning.

Martijn van Otterlo, Artificial Intelligence Researcher, Open Universiteit and Radboud Universiteit will host the Keynote session ‘Reinforcing Good Testing Behaviors: Directions for Intelligent AI Behaviors in Software Testing’ on Thursday June 16.
