We need to test a new feature. We look at the calendar and realize the best way to squeeze a bit more coverage, is to modify a couple of tests, copy a few others, and stitch others together, Frankenstein-style. Or, God help us, use Copilot. Mission accomplished. But at what cost? The tests are hard to read, debug and maintain. Our confidence in them? Not that high.
There was a time, when we put thought into what we wanted from our tests, before going on a patching spree. That Test Design wisdom was lost in time. Let’s uncover the old methods, skills and techniques, and design better, stronger, faster tests. It’s time to bring Test Design back to its former glory.
Gil Zilberfeld, Agile Testing Consultant, TestinGil will host the keynote “The Lost Art of Test Design” that will take place on Thursday March 6.
